Date Night

Well, it’s Friday and you know what that means…  No, I’m not talking about coffee at dad’s (although that did happen).  It’s date night!

And you know how exciting I am.  I’m wearing my bowling shirt tonight!

No lie!  Maybe the BF will wear his Tommy Bahama shirt and we can make a fine looking pair!

Do you think I should wear these pants with it?

The infamous “fruit stripe gum” pants :)

I’m so kidding!  Like those pants would go with that shirt.  (I’m kidding again.  As if I’d own those pants!)

You probably wonder where we’ll be eating with me dressed like a neon sign…

But wait Deb… isn’t that your dining room?  Why, yes it is.  I already told the BF that I’ve been gone every night this week so we are staying in.

You probably think I tried a new recipe for date night right?

Wrong.

I didn’t even try anything new from the WF hot bar.  I will make our salad from scratch though :)

And maybe I picked up something at the dessert case…

I’m hoping I get the macaroon all to myself.

I’ll tell him it’s made of tofu…

Don’t worry about all this talk of food though.  I did do something fitness-related today…

I bought new gloves!  Now I feel officially like a “weight lifter” :) Does it count as a workout if I fought the crowds at the mall on tax-free weekend?  It should.

I’m feeling much better after yesterday’s workout (NROLFW Stage 1A, workout 2) and then my swim (300 meters I think?).  Amazing how the pool makes everything better.  And I’ve mastered breathing!  I was coming up out of the water too far and exerting too much energy.  Only problem now is keeping track of laps.  Anyone else forget what number they are on?

Stay tuned to the blog.  Big design changes are coming!!

Bowling and Chickpeas

Last night I went to a Chamber of Commerce bowling mixer.  My dad invited me and the BF (although he had to work late) and told me “bowling attire” was required.  Well I don’t bowl often enough to have proper bowling attire so I sent the BF to Goodwill with specific instructions.  If he couldn’t find a real bowling shirt with someone else’s name on it (my first choice) then I wanted a button down hawaiian print shirt.  I think he did a fine job:

Deb & Dad – do we look good or what?!

My dad already had his shirt.  Can you see where I get my fashion sense?

While picking out that beauty for me, the BF ran across another fabulous bowling shirt.  I brought it for whoever might want it.  Our 4th (or “my date” as she called herself) was WAY overdressed and promptly decided that some team spirit was in order.

I think my stepmom was embarrassed that she didn’t have a cool shirt like the rest of us.

Aren’t we a fine looking team.

Good thing we look good because we can’t bowl worth a darn!

Whoa! Is that a 65 for me?  I was too busy doing this:

And maybe a little of this…

And I might have joined her in this… Can’t let her drink alone!

Of course that drinking might have contributed to this form…

Although mine was not any better…

I sure didn’t inherit my bowling form…

We didn’t win any door prizes, but a good time was had by all.  See… Look how happy I look while disinfecting from said “good time.”

You’re probably wondering where the chickpeas come in, right?  Luckily, they have nothing to do with bowling.  I made chickpea salad today.  It’s like a vegetarian version of tuna salad.  It’s quick and yummy.  I did my first swimming workout today and boy was it tough!  I swam 10 laps which is something pathetic like 0.4 miles, but it felt like longer.  I was out of breath almost immediately and my arms were almost too tired to shampoo my hair afterwards.  I’ll definitely be doing more swimming though.  It was a great workout!

So for lunch I threw together some chickpea salad.

Chickpea Salad

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chickpeas (mine were previously cooked and then frozen for convenient use later)
  • 1/2 carrot, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1-2 TBS mayo
  • 1 TBS spicy mustard
  • 1-2 TBS dill relish
Instructions
1. Gather your ingredients.
2. Chop the veggies.  I took the lazy route (big surprise) and threw them in the food processor.
3.  Process or mash the chickpeas (leave some chunky for texture).  I was lazy and threw them in the food processor as well.

4. Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
This is good on crackers, bread, lettuce or any other way you might serve tuna salad.  Today I ate mine while sweating to death–in the garage–with the AC repairman–straight out of the mixing bowl.  I know.  I’m classy like that.
Better run!  It’s date night tonight and I gotta make sure my bowling shirt is clean and pressed…

Zumba in the park

Yoga today was easy, but good.  I believe that counts as my stretching for the day!  I’m 4 for 4 in the August Fitness Challenge.

But let’s backup to last night…  One of my girlfriends asked me if I wanted to go to a Zumba class Wednesday night.  It would be free, but it’s outside at a park.  Hmmm… let’s see.  It’s our 32nd day over 100 degrees, we are having record-setting high temps (around 110), so of course I said, “Hell yeah!  How hot can it be at 8pm??”  107 degrees.  That’s how hot.  In case you were wondering.

There was a nice view at the park.

There were other fools people there.

I brought 3 bottles of water in varying states of frozen-ness. (Is that a word?)

Am I blurry from the heat?? :)

I thought it might be miserable, but really it was very, very fun.  It wasn’t too hot, I drank all the water, and the instructor was really good!  I’ll have to look her up and see where she teaches normally.  I really miss Zumba.  It’s how I lost all my weight (75 pounds! WOOHOO!) because I never got bored with it.  I could tell my hips and shoulders were out of practice.  Zumba would probably be great cross-training with running…

Well I’m off to a Chamber of Commerce bowling mixer.  I got a “new” bowling shirt.  Dad said, “Bowling attire required!”  I don’t think he knows what he’s in for :)
